Summary:

1. Challenges/Opportunities in sleep medicine:

Sleep related concerns exist for large population; associated with many medical conditions; chronic conditions=>management.

2. How to quantify sleep quality?

Slow Wave Sleep (SWS) plays a critical role: recuperation of the mild-body system; memory consolidation detox of the brain.

3. The traditional method:

In the R&K rule, SWS is classified as non-REM3 (N3) stage. However, it has little or no correlation to clinical outcomes in most studies. Some problems of R&K scoring.Elderly subjects often do not exhibit stage 3 sleep by conventional criteria.

Conventionally scored sleep stages do not accurately correspond to physiozogical changes across the sleep period.

4. New method: cardiopulmonary coupling (CPC)

The cardiopulmonary coupling(CPC) analysis is only basd on ECG signals, among the CPC analysis, LFC reflects that unstable sleep, HFC reflects that stable sleep, and VLFC is associated with waking dreams.

Applying pulse sensor principle to Huawei mobile phone and Xiaomi mobile phone is its latest application, and the effect is good.
